World Cup Final Betting Preview

It all comes down to this. Following five weeks and 107 games, the biggest World Cup in history concludes in New Jersey on Sunday evening. 48 teams have been whittled down to two, leaving Spain and Argentina to do battle for the most famous trophy in the sport. Can Argentina become the first back-to-back winners since Brazil in 1962? Or will Spain become World Champions for only the second time in their history?
With Argentina ranked number 1 in the world and Spain number 2, the cream has risen to the top at the 2026 World Cup, leading to a mouthwatering final. Whereas Argentina boast the greatest to ever do it in Lionel Messi and a seemingly insatiable will to win, Spain have technical excellence and one of the most explosive young talents in Lamine Yamal on their side.
The bookmakers favour Spain following that dominant semi-final win over France, but starting as favourites didn’t do England much good against Lionel Scaloni’s men. With the disappointment of that late collapse starting to ease, here, using data presented by NewBettingSites.uk, I take a look at the key stats ahead of the game and pick out my best bets for the World Cup Final.

Spain v Argentina: Head-to-Head Record
The 2026 World Cup final will represent the fifteenth meeting between these powerful footballing nations. It’s all square heading into this fixture, with the 14 previous clashes producing six wins for Spain, six wins for Argentina, and two draws.
The only previous World Cup meeting between the nations came in that glorious World Cup year of 1966. Argentina came out on top in that Group stage encounter at Villa Park, with a brace from Luis Aritime helping La Albiceleste to a 2-1 success.
Argentina will want to forget their most recent clash with Spain in 2018. While only a friendly encounter, Spain ran riot in a 6-1 rout at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Team News
There are no new injuries for either side ahead of Sunday’s game. Yeremy Mino and Victor Munoz remain out for Spain, while there is a slight doubt about semi-final goalscorer Pedro Porro. Facundo Medina is the main concern for Argentina as he continues to recover from a calf injury picked up in the Round of 32.
Stats Analysis and Recommended Bets for Spain v Argentina

Both sides have posted solid numbers on their way to the final, but the raw data favours Spain. While behind Argentina on actual goals scored, they edge the xG-for metric and have impressively conceded only once so far in the tournament. The Spanish edge may also be worth upgrading, considering they have faced a higher calibre of opponent than Argentina on their journey to the final.
My first instinct is to favour Spain, but first we need to adjust the above table to reflect what we can expect to see on Sunday evening. We do this by weighting the possession percentage to 100%, then adjusting all other stats accordingly. This creates the following table:

With the stats in place, how can we expect the 2026 World Cup Final to unfold? Let’s first take a look at the expected correct scores by averaging the predicted goals for and against for each side and the predicted xG for and against for each side.
Using the predicted goals creates a correct score prediction of Spain 1.4 – 1.19 Argentina. If we instead use the xG values, we get a score prediction of Spain 1.26 – 1.23 Argentina. As such, 1-1 looks worth a punt. However, with Spain’s average standard of opponent being higher en route to the final, it may be worth giving their numbers a boost and adding 2-1 to the staking plan.
- Recommended Correct Score Bet - Spain 1 - 1 Argentina @ 11/2 with QuinnBet
- Recommended Correct Score Bet - Spain 2 - 1 Argentina @ 19/2 with AK Bets
Next, what can we expect in terms of corners? Combining the for and against predicted values for each side creates a corners prediction of 4.44 for Spain and 3.48 for Argentina, for a corners total of 7.92. At a shade of odds against, under 8.5 corners looks a solid punt.
- Recommended Bet - Under 8.5 Corners @ 11/10 with Spreadex
Finally, from a stats perspective, let’s take a look at expected cards. Sticking to the same methodology as with goals and corners, we get a cards prediction of 1.39 cards for Spain, and 1.64 cards for Argentina, for a total cards expectation of 3.03. With passions sure to be running high, and our prediction already a nudge over 3 cards, over 2.5 cards looks rock solid, but is priced accordingly at just 4/11.
I will keep that skinny odds selection as a Bet Builder booster, but for match singles, I prefer to attempt to predict where Argentina’s 1-2 bookings will come from. If frustration does boil over, I suspect it may come in the centre of the park given Spain’s ability to hold onto the ball. Combative in style and not afraid of a tackle, it would be no surprise to see one or both of Argentina’s central midfielders end up in the notebook.
- Recommended Bet - Enzo Fernandez to receive a card @ 14/5 with Spreadex
- Recommended Bet - Alexis MacAllister to receive a card @ 7/2 with Spreadex
Recommended Bet Builder
Keeping broadly in line with the above analysis, I like the look of this World Cup Bet Builder from BetMGM.
- Both Teams to Score - Yes
- Under 8.5 Corners
- Over 2.5 cards
The above Bet Builder pays 14/5 with BetMGM. Adding Lionel Messi to score anytime boosts the odds to 15/2. For a higher-priced Bet Builder, throwing Alexis MacAllister to receive a card into the mix increases the odds to 24/1.
