grand national betfred

The Grand National as a stand-alone race is the biggest horse race that takes place in the UK. The race takes place in April, and as well as being watched by millions of non-racing fans, it is a race that purists love.

It takes a special horse to win the Grand National, and for that reason, those that have success in the race will go on to become legends of the sport and talked about for many years. After cancellation in 2020, the 2021 Grand National is eagerly anticipated and promises to be a top-quality renewal. The 2021 Grand National will be run on Saturday, April 10.

Grand National Betting Offers & Tips

The final field for the Grand National has taken shape, so we know which horses will be running in this world-famous contest.

Cloth Cap has been favourite for the race now for some time, and enhanced his reputation further with a win at Kelso after the weights were revealed for the race. This means he can run off his mark of 148, which was agreed and confirmed, rather than what his current mark is which is now 162, so this horse is 14lb well in according to the handicapper.

However, he is likely to go off somewhere between 3/1 and 5/1 on the day, which will not appeal to the vast majority of punters in a race like this. So where else should we be looking? Here are three bigger priced outsiders to consider.

Kimberlite Candy

This horse has been held off the track with this race in mind for some time now, last time we saw him he was running over the national fences in December. He finished second, jumped really well and looked as though he had plenty left to give after running 3m2f, which looks well for his staying abilities.

Lord Du Mensil

This horse may not have the same quality as some of the others in the contest, but for the past couple of years he has been aiming towards being a regular runner in this kind of event. Aged eight, he has youth on his side compared to some, but does have plenty of jumping experience too. He has a nice light weight, stays all day, jumps well and can run his race.

Definitly Red

Ran a nice race behind Cloth Cap at Kelso when lacking fitness and will have come on a lot for that. The better ground here will help him too, he has Aintree experience and will stay the trip. He’s 12, so at the end of his career, but at a huge price, don’t be surprised to see this horse run a big race.

Grand National Betting Offers for New Customers

With betting shops in the UK still closed, just like at the Cheltenham Festival, all betting on the Grand National will be done online. Those looking to open new accounts can do so and claim a welcome offer when they do.

Grand National 2022 Free Bet Offers

It should come as no surprise to know that there are many free bet offers created around the Grand National. Of course, it is a time when many people are looking to bet, so the offers out there are taking advantage of by many punters on the day and beforehand.

However, these offers are not available all of the time, and on the day of the race, some bookmakers will choose to not have their offer available. This is because they want to encourage people who are betting on sport throughout the year, rather than those who bet on just one day.

If you see a big Grand National betting offer that you like and it is available, make sure you claim the offer before it disappears. When taking any free bet offer, make sure you look at the terms and conditions attached to it, so you know what you need to complete to claim the offer.

Grand National Betting Offers for Existing Customers

When you think of Grand National betting offers, you instantly think of welcome offers that new players can take advantage of. However, that is no longer the case, because bookmakers are beginning to see the value of customer retention. You may not be able to get a big free bet as an existing customer, but you will be able to get something when you bet and here are three potential Grand National offers for existing customers.

Best Odds Guaranteed

This is one of the most common and most-used horse racing offers, and vital if you want success as a punter. The offer runs on the day of the race, from a selected time which will vary between the bookmakers. If you place a bet and the offer is on, make sure you take the price.

This is then locked in, you know that is the lowest price you will get paid out on. However, if the SP is bigger then this is where the offer kicks in and you will be paid out at the bigger SP price, which is great news.

For example – you place your Grand National bet and take the price of 10/1 in the morning.

If you don’t have this offer, you will be paid out at 10/1 regardless of what happens with the SP.

However, let’s say the SP is 16/1, if you have this offer, you are getting paid out at 16/1, rather than the 10/1 you had taken. This means six points extra profit, all for doing nothing other than betting with a bookmaker that offers the best odds guaranteed promotion.

Non-Runner No Bet

This promotion is for those who are placing their Grand National bets ahead of the day. If you bet on the day and your horse is an non-runner, you will get your money back from the bookmaker as standard. However, if you place the bet in advance, this is not always the case, unless your bookmaker covers you by offering the non-runner no bet promotion.

This promotion should be sought out by anyone looking to bet early on the Grand National, it is a great cover in case anything goes wrong. There is always the chance of a horse missing the race due to injury, sickness or something else, this is the way to cover yourself.

Enhanced Places on the Day

The final betting promotion for the Grand National that existing customers can use is enhanced place terms. This is almost always the number of places paid on the race. Standard each way terms state that each way bets are to be paid out on the first four places.

However, many bookmakers run a promotion for each way bets where they will pay out on the first five home, sometimes even the first six. This means more places paid, and more chance of winning.

For example, if you bet each way and your horse finishes in 5th place. A bookmaker paying standard terms will see this as a losing bet, while someone paying enhanced places down to 5th or more will pay you as a winning bet.

This offer really can be the difference between winning and losing on the race.

What Bookmakers Have Already Withdrawn Their Offers?

Some bookmakers will withdraw their welcome offers on Grand National day. This is because they want to encourage long-term customers to sign up with them. If you want to claim a welcome offer for the Grand National, you need to do this before they disappear.

These are the bookmakers who have withdrawn their offers so far:

  • Hopa
  • Karamba

Should You Bet Win or Each Way on the Grand National?

Many punters who place a wager on the Grand National are unfamiliar with horse racing. These may be people who would normally bet on other sports, or those who wouldn’t bet on anything else at all. Whatever your situation, the same question is asked by many. Should you bet win or each way on the Grand National?

There is no right or wrong answer here, many people will take each side, so the best option is to explain the benefits of each one, so you can decide which one suits your betting needs.

When you bet to win, you are doing exactly what it says, choosing which horse you think will win the race. If you are second, or worse, you get nothing back. The benefit of betting to win is that your full stake is on a horse to win, if you win, you get the full odds. You may also choose to split your money across two horses, rather than picking one horse in an each way bet.

With an each way bet, as well as betting on a horse to win, you are betting on it to place, so this is two bets in total, and 2x your unit stake. However, the chances of winning are much greater, as you will be paid out on the first four horses as standard, but maybe five or six if you bet with a bookmaker offering enhanced each way terms.

If you are betting on a big outsider, the returns for an each way bet that places can still be very significant, so make sure to factor this in also.

The choice is yours, but armed with those facts and different ones, you should be able to make an informed choice before you place your bets.

What is Each Way Betting?

Grand National FAQ

The Grand National is ran over four miles two and a half furlongs, making it one of the biggest tests for a racehorse anywhere in the world.

It is the distance mentioned, combined with the unique jumping test that this race offers, that makes the winners very special. The winner of the Grand National is a strong staying horse who has a lot of stamina, combined with one that can jump very well but perhaps more importantly, the horse also needs to have a big heart and be ready to come out on top.

Grand National free bet offers are great if you are looking to open up a new betting account before the race. Many bookmakers offer these, including the new betting sites we are seeing launched as they know it is important for gaining new business. However, these betting offers will disappear as we edge closer to the day, so if you see one you like, make sure you grab it before it’s too late.

If you already have a betting account and want to find the best Grand National promotions then look out for offers such as best odds guaranteed, non-runner no bet and enhanced each way terms, depending on the wagers you want to place.
