A lot of the time, it will be beneficial to pick a horse who’s been consistently hitting top 3 finished in every recent race. However, this tactic may not always be fool proof as a lot of the time, the horses who have been performing well, are given the most weight to carry.

Odds

One way that could see you more profitable on race day is by watching the odds. Bookmakers will often show you whether the odds on a particular horse has drifted or not. A lot of the times, if a horse has seen a lot of money come in for it, or if the bookmaker have found some information out that might improve their chances, they will lower the odds. So people using this method will bet on a particular horse if they see he has gone from 18/1 to 10/1. Obviously, this is not fool proof but it’s a lazier way than studying form sheets and has some logic too.

Tips

Most newspapers will show all the races from your area on that day and they will have their own tipsters that work for them. One way you could bet on the horses is by following certain known successful tipsters. A good tactic that some people use (if they don’t want to do their own research), is by following around 10 different tipsters and betting on the most popular backed horse. Obviously, again this is not fool proof but will guide you in the right direction if you’re not sure what horse to back.

To summarise these tips, yes you can follow certain tipsters or bet on horses that have seen a lot of money come in for them. But it’s always best to try and research everything yourself. It’s not feasible to bet on every horse in the world but it’s possible to find real value in a lot of races if you do your homework. Check the horses form, jockeys form, conditions, the weight of the horse, previous track record and age of the horse for your best chance of winning. And, good luck!
