Best Betting Sites and Tips for the Midlands Grand National

Midlands

The Cheltenham Festival may end on Friday, but for those bitten by the racing bug, the entertainment continues on Saturday afternoon. Having packed up at Prestbury Park, the ITV crew split their resources between Kempton and Uttoxeter for a quality seven-race card of televised action – what better way to nurse a Cheltenham hangover?

The pick of the entertainment comes from Uttoxeter, as the Staffordshire venue opens its doors for its biggest and best race of the year. Held over a marathon 4m2f and featuring 25 fences, the Midlands Grand National provides a staying chase spectacle to ease the Cheltenham blues. Here, using analysis presented by NewBettingSites.uk, we pick out a Lucky 15 for the Uttoxeter races on the ITV Racing menu, including our selection in the big race itself.

1:50 Uttoxeter - Jenningsbet 200 Shops Nationwide Handicap Hurdle

With only a couple of runners at the meeting, Fergal O’Brien has largely given the Cheltenham festival the swerve in 2026. However, the Gloucestershire handler does well at this track and is fancied to strike in the opener with Warriors Destiny.

Having failed to complete in three of five point-to-point outings, this son of Jukebox Jury looked like he would need a bit of work when joining O’Brien in October. Having shown definite signs of encouragement in bumper, maiden, and novice company, he made a successful handicap debut over this course and distance in January. Travelling nicely at the head of affairs, he posted his most polished round of jumping yet and was full value for his 2¾l winning margin. He’s up 7lb for that but gives the impression he may have more to offer on only his second start in this sphere.

  • Recommended Bet - Warriors Destiny to win @ 13/2 with VirginBet

2:25 Uttoxeter – Jenningsbet Handicap Hurdle

Having missed the cut for the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ race at the Cheltenham Festival, Dan Skelton’s A Pai De Nom seems likely to be all the rage in the betting for this assignment. Improving, and from a yard in red-hot form, he has rock solid claims. However, with the pick of his efforts coming on soft or heavy going, and the ground at Uttoxeter currently described as good to soft, we just prefer an each way option.

The one we like at a double-figure price is the Olly Murphy-trained seven-year-old Roaring Conquest. Placed at Grade 2 level in February 2025, he dropped to handicap company for his first start of the current season and duly won nicely over 3m at Windsor. Seeming unsuited by the soft conditions in his two starts since, the return to a quicker surface can see him resume his progress.

  • Recommended Bet - Roaring Conquest each way @ 12/1 with VirginBet

3:00 Uttoxeter - Jenningsbet Midlands Grand National

For well-documented reasons, the year has not started well for Welsh trainer Evan Williams. Taking over the licence ahead of her husband's sentencing, Cath Williams made a flying start when saddling Ask Brewster to win the Kim Muir at the Cheltenham Festival. That winner flew under the radar, and we like the look of another Williams-trained runner at a double-figure price here.

In six starts over trips of 3m3f or further, Neo King boasts form figures of 2-2-2-6-1-3, with the only disappointment coming when producing a poor round of jumping in the Borders National. An eye-catching third in a good to soft edition of the Haydock Grand National Trial last time out, he is only 1lb high here and can at least hit the frame once again.

  • Recommended Bet - Neo King each way @ 14/1 with VirginBet

3:35 Uttoxeter – Jenningsbet Novices’ handicap Chase

Hot on the heels of successful Cheltenham Festivals, Nicky Henderson and Dan Skelton have fancied contenders in the last of the televised Uttoxeter races. Henderson’s As The Fella Says looks the more obvious of the two, having won over the distance. However, Skelton’s Kykorock may be open to significant improvement stepping right up in trip and sporting a first-time tongue tie.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see either win, but at a slightly bigger price, the one to carry our cash is the Lucinda Russell & Michael Scudamore mare, Golden Point. Arriving seeking a hat-trick following back-to-back wins at Kelso, this mare looks a thorough stayer at the trip, which gives her an edge over at least half of these rivals. A career-high mark demands another step forward, but she can go close for a yard operating at a 20% strike rate over the past fortnight.

  • Recommended Bet - Golden Point to win @ 9/2 with VirginBet

A 50p each-way Lucky 15 on the above selections at the recommended prices returns £6,298.01 if all four horses win, and £110.51 if all four only place.
