Is There Such Thing as a Natural Born Gambler?

There is no doubt that gambling is as big as it has ever been right now, and it only looks as though it will increase in popularity, with more ways to bet thanks to new online and mobile opportunities appearing all of the time. When you look at what gambling is like right now, you could easily assume that it has always been that way, if you didn’t know any different, however you couldn’t be further from the truth.

It is only in recent years where gambling has risen to this kind of level, begging the question, is there such thing as a natural born gambler? If there was, then why wasn’t gambling so popular 50 years ago, or further. While not 100% confirmed, based on the evidence we have; it is pretty certain that there was no gambling at all in many parts of the world as recently as 150 years ago, with places including South America, Australia and New Zealand as well as many more.

There is a big connection between gambling and real money casinos, and it is the inequality of money that played a big role in gambling becoming a part of society. From those that aimed to win more money to become a richer person, and move into a higher level of society, to those that did it to survive and earn a living for their family, money was always connected to gambling, and it continues to be now.

With the movement of migrant labourers, gambling quickly spread around the world and these people were big in making gambling as popular as it is now right in the early days. They would return home with what felt like a huge amount of money, and money that allowed them to compete with others in the world hierarchy, something they hadn’t done in the past. In gambling, there is no class system, but an opportunity for those who are successful to compete with those above them, and gain rewards from that.

From the early stages of gambling, we find ourselves in a world that is seemingly running hand in hand with gambling. With online gambling giving us the chance to bet when we want, where we want, it also brings the wealth earnt from gambling to others. For example, Google are earning huge amounts of money from companies who pay to advertise their gambling services.

We have been gambling for a very long time, but it is only now that the impact of gambling has been so great, and had such an impact on society as a whole. The gambling industry makes a profit on us believing that we are natural born gamblers, though history shows that it is probably not the case. Our inner risk taker and the ease of which we have gambling opportunities in front of us is more important in this matter and has a far bigger impact over us than our natural instincts on the matter.
