Sport with Fans in Attendance is Back Next Week

Glorious Goodwood Festival

After months of either no sport in the UK or sport with no fans, the UK government is running two trial events next week in an attempt to get fans at live events in the future.

Next week is a huge week of sport in the UK, and two huge occasions for the entire country, with test events running on consecutive days that could shape how the rest of 2021 pans out.

The hope is that all sporting events will have fans back in some capacity by October, though there is talk that reduced attendances will be in place for a while after this. These trials are the first steps of many, and an exciting time for those who love to get out and visit these events in person, soaking up the atmosphere on offer.

Snooker World Championships

The Snooker World Championships begin on Friday July 31, an event that was scheduled to take place in April and May but was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Snooker has been played since in a controlled environment, but the big news ahead of the World Championships is that fans will be able to attend.

Rather than the packed crowds we are used to seeing at The Crucible, a maximum of 300 people will be able to attend the snooker each day, with social distancing between seats to try and avoid any problems.

The tournament is seen as the pinnacle of snooker and each season we see huge interest surrounding it, this year it would be no surprise to see even more with the test running. Fans will be sat in cinema style seating plans, grouped together with those they are attending with but socially distances from anyone else.

The tournament runs for 17 days with the final taking place on Sunday August 16, and fans will be inside watching the action for every single day of the event, so certainly a big moment in sport.

Glorious Goodwood Festival

The Glorious Goodwood horse racing festival takes place next week too, starting on Tuesday July 28 and running until Saturday August 1.

A day after the first trial held at the snooker, horse racing will take part in the second. This is outside, and a very expansive racecourse but a lot more people will be attending. 5000 racegoers will be allowed to attend the final day of the Glorious Goodwood festival, traditionally a day that attracts many times that number.

There is no doubt that the racecourse is big enough to handle 5000 people and give them all somewhere to stay safe, but seeing such a big number heading to an event will obviously be the cause of concern for some people.

The hope is that horse racing is one of the first sports to allow fans back in on a larger scale, due to the space available inside racecourses, so this trial at Goodwood is important overall, but especially to the racing industry.
