FA Cup and Premier League: Best Bets for the Weekend Action

fa cup

The 2024/25 season is well into its final stages as we reach the final week in April. Barring an extremely unusual sequence of results, we know the identity of the Premier League Champions and the three sides who will ply their trade in the Championship next season. However, the race for the European positions looks set to go down to the wire. By Sunday evening, we will also know the names of the sides who will line up at Wembley in the FA Cup Final.

Here, using data presented by NewBettingSites.uk, we pick out our best bets for the two FA Cup Semi-Finals and the games featured on the Super Sunday menu in the Premier League.

First up at Wembley is this clash between the Eagles and the Villains, with Unai Emery’s men favourites to progress to the final. On the stats, it is easy to favour Villa, with the Birmingham side in better recent form, boasting a higher win percentage, and leading the way on xG for and against.

However, Palace have every reason to be confident when looking at the recent results between the sides, with Oliver Glasner’s troops picking up a 2-2 draw at Villa Park earlier in the campaign and battering Villa 4-1 at Selhurst Park in the most recent meeting.

Both sides were in action in midweek – Villa lost out to a last-gasp goal at Manchester City, and Palace picked up a solid draw at Arsenal.

With the stats suggesting one thing and recent matchups another, we wouldn’t have much between the win prices of these sides. As such, the value lies in backing Palace to win a goal-laden encounter.

We head to the Vitality Stadium for the first of the Super Sunday fixtures, as eighth-placed Bournemouth take on a Manchester United outfit, who languish down in fourteenth. Now eight points off sixth, Bournemouth have no room for error if they are to keep their outside chance of a European place alive. United, meanwhile, have nothing but pride to play for and seem likely to rest players with a big European semi-final on the horizon.

The Cherries have held the edge in recent meetings – winning 3-0 at Old Trafford in each of the past two seasons. The game here last season ended in a 2-2 draw.

Combining the home and away xG numbers for this game suggests a scoreline of Bournemouth 1.91 – 1.34 Manchester United. However, given the motivation differential and the possibility of Ruben Amorim fielding a weakened side, we fancy this may be a little more comfortable than that for the hosts.

Third plays fourth in what promises to be a cracking second semi-final from Wembley on Sunday afternoon. Having each won four of their last six in the league, both teams arrive in solid form, with City, in particular, seemingly over their early/mid-season woes.

It was honours even between these sides in the league – City winning 3-0 at the Etihad and Forest nicking a 1-0 win at the City Ground.

Underestimating Forest has been costly for punters so far this season. However, City arrive with more momentum and surely won't lack motivation, considering this is their one remaining chance at a trophy. Forest won’t go down without a fight, but City edges the key stats and can do enough to progress.

Last stop Anfield, and the game which will surely see Liverpool finally crowned Champions. Following a sizzling first year at the helm, Arne Slot needs just one more point to secure the title at the first time of asking. 16th-placed Spurs are unlikely to dampen the celebrations on Merseyside.

So far this season, Liverpool mastered Spurs 4-1 over two legs in the Carabao Cup and battered the North Londoners 6-3 in the reverse fixture. Boasting a significant edge on both sides of the ball, according to xG, and an outstanding home win percentage, the Reds are very difficult to oppose

Odds of 2/7 are perfectly fair for those seeking a solid acca option. However, we will look to boost that price by taking the hosts to come out on top and celebrate the title in entertaining style.
