Best Bets for Royal Ascot Day 5

royal ascot 2025

Saturday afternoon sees the magnificent Royal Ascot meeting draw to a close. The opening days provided a nice mix of the big guns hitting the target and newcomers to the Group 1 winners' enclosure in Jim Goldie and Harry Eustace. What lies in wait on Day 5?

With four contests rated at Listed level or above and a trio of quality handicaps, there’s something to suit all tastes on the seven-race card. The Wokingham Stakes satisfies the needs of those seeking a handicap puzzle, whilst potential stars of the future are on show in the opening Chesham Stakes. However, the sprinters grab the spotlight in the big Group 1 as an international cast of runners and riders line up for the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes.

Here, using data presented by NewBettingSites.uk, we pick out our four best bets for one of the biggest meetings of the British racing year, including in the main event.

Saturday: Chesham Stakes - Ascot, 2:30 pm

We have a classic head-to-head clash at the top of the market in the opener as Coolmore and Godolphin lock horns once more. Moments Of Joy carries the hopes of Ballydoyle following a debut success at Leopardstown, which was workmanlike rather than spectacular. However, many runners from the Aidan O’Brien yard improve markedly for their debut outing, suggesting there may be more to come from this son of US Triple Crown winner Justify.

As likeable as Moments Of Joy is, the debut performance of the Godolphin representative Treanmor oozed the wow factor. Looking like a man amongst boys from an early stage, he merely had to be nudged out by William Buick to forge an effortless 4l clear of the field. Costing the small matter of €2,000,000 at the sales, the early evidence suggests that this son of Frankel may be money well spent. Post-race comments from the trainer suggested that nothing has been able to get this horse off the bridle at home. Considering Charlie Appleby has peppered the juvenile winner's enclosure this season, those words may prove ominous for his rivals.

Wathnan Racing’s Humidity and Tailgunner Joe make some each-way appeal, but we will be sticking with the strapping Treanmor to build on that debut promise.

Saturday: Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes – Epsom, 3:40 pm

Our second selection comes in a cracking edition of this £1,000,000 6f Group 1 contest. In a typically international line up, Satono Reve is a dangerous contender from Japan, whilst the French runner Lazzat heads the betting. Hailing from the yard of Jerome Reynier, this Territories colt is the joint top-rated runner in the field and looks worth every pound of that 118 rating. He was our long-term pick for this on his form in France, but now looks short enough given the lightning-quick going – yet to race on anything quicker than good.

Ex-Australian sprinter is another to note for Ireland and Aidan O’Brien, given the solid record of Aussie sprinters at this meeting. We liked his chances in this before his yard debut at the Curragh. However, that last of nine effort leaves him with questions to answer.

The one to be on for our money is the Kevin Ryan-trained Inisherin. Mightily impressive when roaring to victory in the 2024 Commonwealth Cup, he went off the boil in two subsequent outings. However, we were encouraged by his comeback success in the 1895 Duke Of York Clipper Stakes. On a line through Lake Forest, his form stacks up well with that of Lazzat, and unlike the market leader, Inisherin is thoroughly proven on good to firm.

  • Recommended Bet - Inisherin to win @ 4/1 with BetGoodwin

Saturday: Betfred 3YO ‘Dash’ Handicap – 2:10pm

The increasingly familiar site of sire Wootton Bassett, jockey Ryan Moore, and trainer O’Brien heads the betting for the Jersey Stakes – the only difference being that Donnacha rather than Aidan sits in the trainer column. That combo is always feared, and Commanche Brave should go close if repeating his close second to Henri Matisse at Leopardstown. However, a record of one win from six starts is enough to steer us elsewhere.

Andrew Balding’s Marvelman ran well behind Cosmic Year in the King Charles II Stakes and can go well. However, if there is a superstar in this lineup, we suspect it is most likely to be the Owen Burrows-trained Remmooz. One of the finest target trainers in the sport, Burrows is a man to be feared at the biggest meetings and may have the ammunition to strike with this son of Blue Point.

Raced only twice to date, Remmooz overcame greenness to win on debut. His display last time out at Doncaster then really caught our eye. Shouldering a penalty in that 16-runner event was no easy task on paper. For Remmooz it was a breeze. Travelling smoothly throughout, he kicked right way under minimal urging for an eased-down three-length stroll. The mount of Callum Rodriguez looked every inch a Group horse in the making that day and can prove it here.

  • Recommended Bet - Remmooz to win @ 5/1 with BetGoodwin

Saturday: Wokingham Stakes (Heritage Handicap) – 5:00 pm

The big handicap on the card sees the third clash of the season between Aramram and More Thunder, with the score standing at 2-0 in favour of the latter. Aramram is 4lb better off at the weights for his most recent short-head defeat, which is enough to turn the tables on paper. However, More Thunder has come with a late rattle in both of those wins, making it tough for the handicapper to get a handle on him. He’s a horse we like, but good to firm ground is an unknown quantity for the son of Night Of Thunder.

The one to be on at a solid value price is Symbol Of Honour, who goes for the boys in blue of Godolphin. This Havana Grey colt ran well for fifth in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes as a two-year-old but looks like a significantly improved performer at three. Four from five this season, his only defeat came when stepping up to 7f for the King Charles II Stakes. Last sighted winning the Group 2 Sandy Lane Stakes, only seven days after winning the Listed Carnarvon Stakes, he is a confirmed Group horse in a handicap. Initially scheduled to head out to Meydan, the fact he stays for this suggests connections like his chances of going close off a mark of 110.

  • Recommended Bet - Symbol Of Honour to win @ 11/2 with BetGoodwin
