A Guide to Betting on Player Performance at Cricket
Cricket is a fun and exciting sport to bet on, and with something for everyone from the new 100 ball format of The Hundred to five-day test matches, you can pick and choose when and where you bet.
It doesn’t always have to be about betting on a team to win either. We have seen a big push in the number of betting markets you can use to bet on individual player performance. These offer you the chance to back your favourite players to succeed or place a bet without choosing the outcome of the game.
Here are some markets you can use if you want to bet on player performance in a cricket game.
Run Scoring
Betting on a player to score runs is the most popular way of betting on a player in cricket. There are many options too which is good.
You will see that both teams have a market for who will be their top run scorer, as well as a combined top run scorer in the game market. This is good if you fancy someone to get a big score, more than their team.
Alternatively, something you can bet on either before or in play is the over/under run market for a player. For example, if the market is set at 25.5 runs, you can either bet on them to score under 25.5 or over 25.5 in the game.
This can be particularly exciting on the in play markets, where the run line will change depending on the score and performance at the time.
Lastly, you can bet on a player to either score a 50 or a 100, again another option if you fancy a player to score big in a game and you think they will pass one or both of these.
Wicket Taking
The opposite of scoring runs is taking wickets, so if you want to bet on a bowler then this is the market for you to look at. Just like with the run scoring markets, you can either bet on a player to be their team’s top wicket taker, or the top wicket taker in the game as a whole.
This is something that moves in play for the bigger games, and again, as wickets are taken or bowlers struggle, the odds will change to add further excitement.
Look out for special markets surrounding wickets too, for example, a player to take five wickets in the game.
Man of the Match
Most bookmakers will allow you to place a bet on the man of the match in cricket, a good option if you think a player can contribute in a couple of different ways. For example, a wicket keeper who you fancy to score runs, and then hopefully add a couple of catches or stumpings when fielding.
This can also work for all-rounders, who can score well and take a few wickets. They may not be the team’s top scorer or wicket taker, but the combination of both could give them the man of the match award.
