Exclusive with Anthony Taylor: I received online abuse after Neeraj Goyat fallout, ‘Because i’m short’ The WWE killed my wrestling dream by email, I’d take Tyron Woodley to school

Anthony Taylor

Speaking to NewBettingSites.uk, Misfits star Anthony Taylor opens up about online abuse, says the WWE killed his wrestling dream and calls out Tyron Woodley for Misfits showdown.

What were you accused of saying to Neeraj Goyat?

All I said, and I stuck with this narrative, India has never produced a world champion in boxing. I guess he interpreted it the wrong way, or his friends probably interpreted the wrong way. I've never been a guy who got into politics. I don't talk about gender, sex, politics, or race. I didn't say India is a s***hole, or anything like that, but did you see my Instagram? The response was brutal. They're calling me a slave, the N-word, it doesn't affect me because I have a tough skin.

What happened with WWE?

The WWE emailed me after inviting me to try-out and they said ‘hey, we decided to go a different direction’. I'm like, ‘what the hell?’ They just literally pulled the rug out from underneath me. I was very upset about it. I wanted to be that next star. I think I would be a great fit for WWE. And I think I would kill it. I mean, there's not a lot of African Americans in WWE, if you think about it. Or I think because I'm short, possibly. Or my age, it could be my age, but you never know.

What about AEW?

AEW is not my direction; that’s like getting a chance to go to the NFL, but you also have a chance to go on and play in the Canadian Football League instead. AEW is the equivalent of European basketball. They pay well but they're not like the NBA.

What’s next for you?

I need my contenders to step the hell up. Guys like Benson Henderson, Anthony Pettis, Tyron Woodley. Why am I having to look for fights outside my weight class? If this was the WBO, WBA, WBC promotion, I'd be having light heavyweight contenders ready to go. We could fight next week, but you're talking about Misfits. Misfits is a very established boxing promotion, but we are limited at light heavyweight on the crossover scene. I’d take Tyron Woodley to school.

Is the Dillon Danis fight dead?

That's totally up to Dillon. But I need time. I need time in advance to get ready for an MMA fight, a good 8 to 12 weeks to prepare for a match, especially if I haven't fought in, like, six years. But I'm open to fighting Dillon.

What do you make of the fact that KSI's saying he'll never box again?

He's his own person. He gonna make his own decision. You can't force a man to fight. Even if he wants to, maybe he might come back in two years. Just let him grow, let him figure things out, what he wants to do, that's his decision. If KSI has now retired for good, it was an honor fighting with you, having fun, building a rival card with you. Great. At the end of the day. He's making enough money, he don't have to do this stuff. I fight because I do it for a living. He fights because it's fun to him.

Who should Jake Paul fight next?

I think a good fight for him would be him versus Deontay Wilder. Make as much money as you can. Jake Paul is gonna be Jake Paul. He's gonna pack out the arena wherever he fights, because he's like the Mayweather, everybody wanna see him lose. Jake Paul will test Deontay Wilder’s chin for sure.
