Right back looks like a potential weakness, but that is nitpicking about one of the most talented squads in the tournament.

Having suffered at the hands of France during qualifying, the Netherlands must be cursing their luck to land in the same section as Les Bleus once again. Nevertheless, they will fancy their chances of at least grabbing the second spot. A centre-back trio of Matthijs de Ligt, Virgil van Dijk, and Nathan Ake provides a solid base, and they look equally strong in wide areas, with Denzel Dumfries providing pace, power and assists down the right. However, they don’t have an Mbappé (or anything close) up top, which may prove their ultimate undoing.

Poland have improved under new boss Michal Proberz but probably not enough to threaten, with a distinct lack of creativity negating their main Robert Lewandoski-shaped weapon. Austria, on the other hand, may have the tools to upset the Dutch. Ralf Rangnick’s spell at Old Trafford may not have produced the desired results, but he remains an elite-level tactician and a notch above Dutch boss Ronald Koeman for our money. As their FIFA World Ranking implies, Romania and Slovakia look up against it.
