Breeders’ Cup 2026: Best British & Irish Challengers and Saturday Betting Tips

On Saturday 31 October, US racing serves up a Halloween treat, as Keeneland hosts the 2026 Breeders’ Cup Festival. As ever, a plane-load of British and Irish challengers will make the transatlantic trip, all seeking a slice of the millions in prize money on offer.
Rich in razzamatazz, dripping dollars, and overloaded with top-class performers, Day 2 of the Breeders’ Cup Festival is not to be missed for Flat fans. It also presents an ideal opportunity for a patriotic punt, particularly in the turf contests such as the Breeders’ Cup Turf and Breeders’ Cup Mile, where European raiders traditionally do well. Here, using analysis presented by NewBettingSites.uk, we pick out our best bets in the four turf events.
Prevagen Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint – Comanche Brave

US runners are traditionally strong in the sprint division, as fans of Wesley Ward has so ably demonstrated at Royal Ascot. Ward leads the charge for the home team in 2026, with his latest Royal Ascot star, Bacio, heading the betting. Having proved 3¾l too good for the field in the Palace of Holyroodhouse Handicap, he added a second British success to his haul in the Nunthorpe Stakes. If lining up in the same form here, he may prove tough to beat.
Comanche Brave is the pick of the British and Irish runners. Hailing from Donnacha O’Brien’s yard, the four-year-old arrives seeking a top-tier hat-trick after wins in the July Cup and Flying Five Stakes. Of the others, Big Mojo has only made the reserve list, while Miss Yechance and Starlust have unfavourable high draws. That may be less of an issue for Starlust, who tends to come with a late rattle anyway and won this in 2024 at Del Mar. At 33/1, he makes a fair bit of each-way appeal, but the sensible option is Comanche Brave, who arrives in electric form and is nicely drawn in stall 7.
Makers Mark Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf – Blue Bolt

The European runners have a much better record in this contest for the fillies and mares, with Ouija Board (2004, 2006), Midday (2009), and Inspiral (2023) among the star names on the roll of honour.
Andrew Balding’s Blue Bolt and Aidan O’Brien’s Precise sit first and second in the market as they prepare to clash for the fourth time in 2026. Thus far the score stands at 3-0 in favour of the Balding runner. As the joint most-successful trainer in Breeders’ Cup history, O’Brien is always to be respected, but Precise will need to find improvement to reverse the form. A perfect six from six this season, Blue Bolt is making a solid case for horse of the year honours and can boost her claims further by taking this.
In what will hopefully be a good race for Juddmonte, our each-way vote goes to the Ger Lyons-trained Red Letter. Boasting career form figures of 1-3-3-2-3-6-3 over 1m1f–1m2f , she’s consistent over this trip and only lost out close to home in the Blandford Stakes last time. Well-drawn in stall 4, she is fancied to gain a nice early position and do enough to hit the frame at a track which places less emphasis on stamina than the Curragh.

FanDuel Breeders’ Cup Mile – Notable Speech

Britain and Ireland waited until 2018 to land a 21st-century blow in this contest when Expert Eye came home in front for Sir Michael Stoute. With five of the past six renewals falling to a British or Irish handler, they have certainly picked up the pace.
Charlie Appleby is responsible for four of those five wins, and the Godolphin number one looks to have the ace in the pack once again in 2026. Now a seven-time winner at the highest level, Notable Speech rounded off 2025 with a win in this race at Del Mar. Looking as well as ever at five, he has added the Lockinge Stakes, City of York Stakes, and Woodbine Mile to his haul. Possessing the type of push-button acceleration that separates the best from the rest, he looks hard to beat, granted a clear run.
For an each-way punt, take a chance on the William Haggas runner, Lake Forest. Going in the colours of Brighton & Hove Albion owner Tony Bloom, this son of No Nay Never has improved 6lbs since his gelding operation. Successful in Listed and Group 2 company this season, he finished an unlucky-in-running seventh in the Sussex Stakes and second in the Coolmore Turf Mile in his two most recent 1m outings. Ideally drawn to hold his early position, he looks dangerous with Cieren Fallon in the saddle.

Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf – Benvenuto Cellini

This is the Breeders’ Cup contest where the European runners fare best. A European runner has won 21 of the 26 editions in the 21st century, while Aidan O’Brien tops the all-time trainers’ table with seven previous wins.
We turn to the O’Brien yard for our 2026 selection. Diamond Necklace heads the betting following her fine third in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. However, Ryan Moore chooses to ride Irish Derby hero Benvenuto Cellini – a decision he made even before Diamond Necklace was drawn wide in stall 12. Benvenuto Cellini, in contrast, has landed stall 2, which should be beneficial provided he breaks swiftly. By Frankel, and out of a mare who won at the 2018 Breeders’ Cup meeting, he looks the ideal type for this assignment with 1m4f on quick ground sure to suit.
From a host of viable each-way options, including Willie Mullins’ defending champ Ethical Diamond, the standout bet at the prices is the Charlie Appleby runner, El Cordobes. Also sired by Frankel, this Godolphin runner ran a cracker to finish third in 2025 and may have finished closer but for a troubled passage in the straight. Only returning to the track recently, in the John Hirsch Turf Classic on 1 October, his third-place effort in that Belmont contest should tee him up nicely for this.

- Each Way Option - El Cordobes @ 25/1 with PricedUp
Using our bet calculator, a £1 win Lucky 15 on our four win selections at the listed prices returns £364.63. A 50p each-way Lucky 15 on our four each way selections at the listed prices returns £125,461.40 if all four win, and £721.90 if all four only place.
