On a busy day of action, Saturday’s bet of the day comes in the live evening fixture from Elland Road as Leeds United take on Newcastle United.

Leeds United vs Newcastle United – Newcastle United to Win

Prior to Monday evening’s game with Liverpool, Newcastle were odds-on to pick up all three points in this clash with newly promoted Leeds. However, that bruising loss took a serious toll on the Magpies. Anthony Gordon’s red card sees him miss out through suspension, while Sandro Tonali, Joelinton, and Fabian Schar are likely to be sidelined with injury. Take all that together, and Leeds may have a chance.

Daniel Farke’s men were predictably outclassed against Arsenal but racked up an impressive xG of 2.38 in their opening win over Everton. On the downside, a midweek Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday showed there is considerable room for improvement.

Overall, we still favour the hosts, with the introduction of Lewis Miley and Jacob Ramsey in midfield likely to necessitate an attacking approach. The Magpies may have only one point from two games, but have played much better than that tally suggests, and can ride their backs-against-the-wall mentality to all three points.

While we expect Eddie Howe’s men to win, they may make hard work of it. For our money, Sandro Tonali is one of the best all-round midfielders in the league, while Joelinton is simply a ball-winning colossus. Their loss will inevitably create holes for Leeds to attack a reshuffled back line. The hosts may come up short, but they can at least get on the scoresheet.

Given the continuing Alexander Isak saga, Newcastle were already short up front. With stand-in striker Gordon now suspended, Howe has little choice but to turn to Will Osula. The ex-Sheffield United man is rough around the edges but has bags of pace and is the type to cause trouble in transition, with Anthony Elanga and Harvey Barnes providing the ammunition from the flanks.
