What is a Yankee Bet?
A yankee bet needs no explanation for some, being one of the most popular out there. However, for those that don’t know, a yankee is a multiple bet which covers four selections. You do not have singles in a yankee, but you have full coverage across the four selections with doubles and upwards. A yankee costs 11 times your unit stake, so if you are placing a 50p yankee bet then the total cost of the bet will be £5.50. There are 11 bets in a yankee, and here is how these are split up:

To get a return from a yankee you need two or more winners because there are no singles in this bet. This means you need at least half of your selections to win and because of this, many people use a yankee when they are betting on favourites instead of outsiders. Just one winner in a yankee means no returns, regardless of what price it is.
Why Place a Yankee Bet?
A yankee is a great bet to use when you want to put together a small number of selections in a multiple bet without needing them all to win. If half of your selections win, two out of four, you will get a return on your yankee whereas you wouldn’t get a return if you placed a straight accumulator on those four.
Two winners will give you one winning bet, three winners will give you four winning bets and should get have four winners then every one of your 11 bets will be a winner.
What is the Difference Between a Yankee and a Lucky 15?
There is one difference between a yankee and a lucky 15 although it is an important one to note. As the name suggests, a lucky 15 has 15 bets inside it, and the four additional bets are four singles on each of the selections. To keep it simple, you can think of a lucky 15 as a yankee but with four additional singles on each of the selections. This means if you have one winner in a lucky 15, you will get a return while you won’t get one from a yankee with one winner.
Can You Place an Each Way Yankee?
Yes, if the sport you are betting on allows each way betting then you are able to play an each-way yankee bet if you wish. This will double the number of bets to 22 from 11, so for example if you place a £1 EW yankee, the total cost to you will be £22.
