Why Chelsea FC can still win the Premier League title
It’s fair to say Chelsea have given their title rivals a massive advantage at this stage in the season, with the Blues failing to get out of first or second gear for much of the campaign. However, a home win against Norwich followed by a goalless draw at White Hart Lane illustrates that Jose Mourinho has finally got his defence shutting out teams and perhaps it’s too early to be writing off Chelsea’s title chances. The champions sit fourteen points behind Manchester City after fourteen games played, although we should note that there are seventy-two points up for grabs and a winning run could catapult the London side back into the reckoning. City don’t look particularly convincing at the moment, with Arsenal suffering with injuries, Manchester United looking ultra-defensive and Liverpool perhaps not the finished package under Jurgen Klopp. Tottenham are bound to drop plenty of points, with teams like Everton, Crystal Palace, Leicester and Southampton out to make life difficult for the title challengers and it could form a power vacuum for Chelsea to get back into the reckoning. Home matches against Bournemouth, Sunderland and Watford can land a full nine points for Mourinho’s men, whose toughest match on the horizon is a trip the King Power Stadium. Eden Hazard is showing signs of returning to his best and Diego Costa remains one of the most dangerous strikers in the league, even if the forward has generally attracted headlines for the wrong reasons this term. Quite simply, you don’t turn into a bad team overnight and we’re expecting Chelsea to have a major say in the Premier League title race before it’s all over bar the shouting.
