The bookmakers launch Premier League markets for 2015/16 season
The new football season might not begin until Saturday 8 August. Since Chelsea claimed the 2014/15 title, outright betting has been available although the bookies have now added countless more markets as we start counting down to the big kick-off! A handful of firms have Golden Boot prices available, with Sergio Aguero unsurprisingly market leader at 3/1, although there is still plenty of business left to be done this summer. Diego Costa, Harry Kane and Alexis Sanchez are some of the other names at the top of the list, while new Manchester United signing Memphis Depay could be an exciting prospect during his first year in England. The relegation market is also a popular one and it’s little surprise to see the three promoted teams featuring prominently, with QPR and Burnley last season failing to remain among the big boys. Watford are regarded as the weakest link and are a best price 8/11 to go down, although Norwich and Bournemouth are both odds-against and it might pay to consider the likes of Newcastle and West Ham United instead. You can take this a step further and have a bet on which team will finish rock bottom. So Newcastle are a 20/1 chance to finish 20th and a slow start under Steve McClaren will have the natives restless once again. Most bookies are expecting the top six to be fairly straightforward this season although you can bet on a market without the best teams, which sees Southampton trading at 2/1 alongside Everton. However, the Saints are struggling to keep their better players as Nathaniel Clyne and Morgan Schneiderlin look set to leave the club and better options could be Swansea City at 10/1 and Stoke City at 12/1. The bookmakers seem pretty convinced that the two Manchester clubs, Arsenal and champions Chelsea will comprise the top four, although you can back any side to land a Champions League spot and Liverpool fans could be interested in the 11/4 about the Reds. Spurs are a 7/1 shot to force their way into the reckoning, although Mauricio Pochettino and Brendan Rodgers might struggle to last the season at their respective clubs according to the latest prices. The bookies have a Sack Race market where you can bet on the next Premier League managerial casualty, with Rodgers as short as 7/2 to be given the axe before any of his counterparts. Perhaps the Liverpool FC owners aren’t in a rush to dispense with his services as the likes of Roberto Firmino and Clyne arrive at Anfield, with Danny Ings promising to be an exciting talent too. Quique Flores is an 8/1 chance and the new Watford manager joins a club where there has been a high turnover of personnel in the past few years. Nigel Pearson is also regarded as vulnerable at 8/1 despite riding out a storm of criticism last term.
