On Saturday 13 August, the 2016/17 Premier League season kicks off and there are six teams trading at single figure odds for the title. The fact that champions Leicester aren’t one of them illustrates we are talking about a competitive division and it’s hard to pick a winner on the outright market. However, there are some other bets that could be worth taking!

betfred logo Manchester City to score most goals @ 2/1 with Betfred Pep Guardiola has been spending big during the summer and it could pay to back City to outscore their title rivals in the Premier League. This looks a safer bet than backing them on the outright market considering how competitive the landscape is. Sergio Aguero should bag a hatful providing he stays fit, with Nolito, Kevin De Bruyne, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling among those players who can chip in with goals to ensure City are top scorers.

bet365 logo Stoke City to enjoy a top ten finish @ 2/1 with bet365 We know the Potters are ambitious and determined to spend money, with Saido Berahino likely to leave West Brom for the bet365 Stadium. Mark Hughes is quietly assembling a strong squad, with Marko Arnautovic, Bojan and Xherdan Shaqiri out to rack up the goals. Jack Butland is among the best keepers in the Premier League, with Gianelli Imbula a class act in the middle of the park and it could point to a top half finish.

Ladbrokes logo Stoke City to be top Midlands club @ 11/4 with Ladbrokes On a similar note, the Potters look a good bet on this market where they are pitted against Leicester City and West Brom. The Baggies could be set for a season of struggle, although the Foxes might also experience a fall from grace that could see Stoke be the best team of this region.

betvictor-logo Hull City to finish bottom @ 11/4 with BetVictor The Tigers burned bright to enjoy promotion from the Championship last term, although Hull look doomed before a ball has been kicked this season. City have already fallen behind with their preparations for the new campaign, with Mohamed Diame eyeing a move to Newcastle and no new faces have arrived at the KC Stadium since Steve Bruce left.

Capture Walter Mazzarri to win Sack Race @ 4/1 with Betway Watford owner Gino Pozzo is not known for his patience and perhaps Mazzarri will be on borrowed time at Vicarage Road, with Quique Sanches Flores being axed last season despite keeping the Hornets in the Premier League. Pozzo wants more than merely survival in this division, although Mazzarri is new to English football and won’t be given a huge amount of time to get things right.

Southampton to finish bottom half @ 11/8 with bet365 We like this odds-against shout considering that the top six should be occupied by the “Big Six”, while the likes of West Ham, Stoke, Everton and Leicester could all compete for top half spots too. The Saints have been punching above their weight for some time, although Claude Puel has a couple of tough acts to follow.
